Health Walks in the Horsham District
Horsham District Council co-ordinates Health Walks throughout the Horsham District.  These are
free of charge and take place in various venues throughout the Horsham District.
Health Walks offer the opportunity to explore your community and socialise with the added
benefit of improving your fitness!  Programmes are generated every three months.  Walks are
tailored to different levels of fitness and there are some routes suitable for wheelchairs or
pushchairs.
Should you require any further information about walks in your area please contact the Health
Walks Co-Ordinator on 01403 215269 or visit

The Acorn Plus Scheme has now been rolled out to all of the Denne
Neighbourhood.  Should you require more information on the Acorn Plus Scheme
their website, along with contact details can be found
here

Denne Neighbourhood Council is delighted with the increased recycling rates that
the Acorn Scheme has produced, however we are aware of issues surrounding the
scheme such as bins being 'eaten' by the trucks and bins blocking pavements after
collection.  Should you have any issues with any aspect of the Acorn Scheme then
please do let us know.

Foster Carers Needed

West Sussex County Council has vacancies for men and women who value the future of children and
want a career that combines paid work with family life.

The job title is: Foster Carer.

Put simply the County Council is asking people to look at the skills and qualities they have that could
make them great modern foster carers. This reflects the main message of Foster Care Fortnight
earlier this year: 'Do you have the skills to foster?'

But, West Sussex is so short of foster carers that the County Council is launching a major new
recruitment campaign.

Foster care has changed dramatically over the last 30 years. Today fostering is a career – one that
combines family life with a skilled profession.  Foster carers are needed throughout West Sussex to
provide children with safe and caring homes while they are unable to live with their own families.

Children and young people come into care for a number of reasons. It can be because their parents
are experiencing difficulties or because a child has been neglected or abused. For some young people
who have a disability the caring is shared with their parents to give them support.

The role of a foster carer is so important in helping these children feel safe, wanted, secure and
settled when they are away from their family. A foster carer can also help a child or young person to
develop their skills and confidence, to rebuild their lives and fulfil their potential.

West Sussex County Council’s foster carers come from a wide variety of different backgrounds,
ethnicity, ages and experience. But what they do have in common is the patience, resilience, space,
time, and energy to meet the needs of children in their care – be it for a few days, weeks, months or
longer.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to foster and would like more information please call 01403
229333 or visit www.westsussex.gov.uk/fostering

Knowing that you have helped change a child’s life for the better can be very rewarding.

Horsham Town Community Partnership

Horsham’s three Neighbourhood Councils, Horsham in Bloom along with other local groups have successfully set
up the Horsham Town Community Partnership.

We held a successful public exhibition in East Street in October to ask Horsham’s residents which issues they
would like to see tackled in the town.  This highlighted residents concerns over cycling, keeping community
buildings and facilities for community use, loss of Post Office facilities and making the town feel safe to name
just a few.

The Community Partnership can apply for grants to undertake projects that cannot be dealt with by HDC,
WSCC or individual groups.

We asked residents at the exhibition if they would support a Community Partnership in the town.  The answer
was a very positive “yes”.

Horsham Town Community Partnership intends to apply for grants and work on two or three projects at a time
and calling on a volunteer network to see these projects to fruition.

Human Nature Garden
The new Human Nature garden project in Horsham Park. The garden is now well on track to be opened to
the public in June, 2011. Horsham in Bloom as a charity has raised a total of £160,000 – and a grant of
£100,000 from the Big Lottery. The site has been carefully designed to  demonstrate the strong links
between plants and people, and includes a grass amphitheatre, outside performance area, wood sculptures,
an orchard area and space for occasional exhibitions. Horsham in Bloom will remain involved with the garden
for several years after thepublic opening, and is committed to ensuring the care of the garden as well as
planning for annual community events.
Horsham Park
For many years the Friends of Horsham Park ably represented the views of local residents and  users of the Park.
Unfortunately that group no longer exists.

Denne NC has taken over that consultative role after consultation with HDC. Denne NC believes that Horsham Park
is the ‘jewel in the Crown’ of Horsham and a fantastic asset that must be protected, maintained and enhanced for
the benefit of all. If you have views or opinions on Horsham Park on the way in which it is run or its  future, please
let us know.
Christmas Lights
For the first time the Christmas lights were funded by the Un-parished part of the town by the ‘special charge’ part of your
Council Tax. The Un-parished part of the town is covered by 3 Neighbourhood Councils—Denne NC, Forest NC and Trafalgar NC.
Local businesses also helped to contribute and have worked hard along with HDC and other local groups such as Horsham
Unlimited, Horsham Rotary and Horsham District Council.
Are you aware of the Cycling Forum?
